Canadian Geography
Canada is the 2nd biggest country in the world and also has the longest span of coastline of any country in the world! With such a large country, we have a huge range of different geographical features. We are going to study the 7 physiographic regions of Canada. These regions are different than the provinces our country is divided into, as these divisions are based on each area’s relatively similar physical geography and landforms. |

Project - RE-DEFINING CANADA: PHYSIOGRAPHIC PROVINCES?
Provinces and territories cost money to run. Due to tough economic times, the Canadian government wants to explore the idea of cutting costs by redrawing the political map of Canada along physiographic lines. This would effectively cut the number of provinces/territories by almost 50%. Obviously this is a very controversial undertaking, so the government has commissioned a top-notch research firm (Mr. Storey's Humanities 9 class) to investigate the feasibility of this idea. You will be asked to research one of the proposed “new” physiographic provinces, and ultimately come to a conclusion about whether changing the provincial borders along regional lines would be a good idea for the people living in your physiographic “province”.
